What are the types of FSSAI licence?
The FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority
of India) issues different kinds of registration or licenses based on the scale
and nature of the food business. There are mainly three types:
1. Basic Registration: This is for small
businesses or startups that have an annual turnover of up to ₹12 lakhs. It is
suitable for small-scale food businesses such as hawkers, petty retailers, or
temporary food stalls.
2. State License: This license is for
medium-sized businesses with an annual turnover between ₹12 lakhs and ₹20
crores. It is applicable to food manufacturers, processors, transporters,
distributors, retailers, etc., operating within a single state.
3. Central License: This
license is for large-scale businesses with an annual turnover exceeding ₹20
crores. It is required for businesses engaged in import-export of food
products, operating in multiple states, or supplying food to government
institutions.
Businesses
that are required to obtain a Central License from the Food Safety and
Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) include:

Packers and repackers for wholesale distribution with an
annual turnover exceeding ₹20 crores.

Importers and exporters of food products.

Operators supplying food to central government agencies.
